Irish Fiddle mp3s

50megs.com no longer allows downloadable files on its free service. The mp3s will be available again when I find another host.

Chief O'Neill's was played on Helicores, the rest were played on new (4 day old) Tonicas. The fiddle is tuned down to Ab approximately in all the recordings.

Chief O'Neill's Favourite (2Mb)
One of my favourites too. Here's some vaguely accurate notation.

The Girl's Croon (The Fintown Girl's Lament) (2.6Mb)
A slow air from Donegal. My microphone doesn't get on very well with my E string. I used more vibrato in the recording than I usually do; that sometimes happens after the third Guinness.

Stirling Castle (1.1Mb)
A well-known strathspey.

Bridie Morley's/2 Untitled Reels (3.6Mb)
Three reels, I can't remember the names of the last two. I started playing slowly and then took off at excessive speed, sacrificing all sorts of technique for energy. :)

Cuckoo Hornpipe (2.1Mb)
I think sometimes a relaxed approach to intonation sounds good on hornpipes, so it's mostly deliberate (honest!). The poor intonation in the 2nd position phrases is not deliberate, it's lack of practise. ;)
